What We Do

The Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) is a precinct-based organization with membership recorded by the Supervisor of Elections. The organization is the official representative body of registered Democrats in Escambia. We are governed by the State of Florida and the Florida Democratic Party.

We are united by the principles of the Democratic Party. We work on behalf of Democratic candidates at all levels, from President and Governor down to local elected offices. We work to facilitate and encourage the full participation of all Democrats in Escambia County in choosing their elected officials and controlling their political destiny. We hope to inspire people to vote and act for positive change.

We invite you to join us. Attend our meetings to learn more about the responsibilities of a precinct captain and membership in the DEC.

Our activities include:

  • Voter registration. Throughout the year, we are signing up Democrats to vote.
  • Voter education and mobilization. We reach out to voters where they live, providing information on our candidates and issues.
  • Public communications and outreach. We communicate our message to the media and strive to build relationships in the community.
  • Candidate recruiting and training. We have developed a long-range plan to find and train good candidates who embody our values.
  • Fundraising for our work. Our funds come from the generosity of local individuals who support our mission.
  • Special events. We plan events to connect with fellow Democrats and to advance our values and principles in northwest Florida.

Our volunteers give time to our organization and candidates. Opportunities include office work, voter registration drives, phone banking, and organizing our community events. Volunteers are vital in our campaign to turn the Florida Panhandle BLUE.

From the Democratic Party Platform:

Civil Rights: Democrats will always fight to end discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

Education: Democrats know that every child, no matter who they are, how much their families earn, or where they live, should have access to a high-quality education, from preschool through high school and beyond.

Environment: Democrats believe that climate change poses a real and urgent threat to our economy, our national security, and our children’s health and futures, and that Americans deserve the jobs and security that come from becoming the clean energy superpower of the 21st century.

Health Care: Democrats have been fighting to secure universal health care for the American people for generations, and we are proud to be the party that passed Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act.

Immigration Reform: Democrats believe immigration is not just a problem to be solved, it is a defining aspect of the American character and our shared history.

Jobs and the Economy: We are committed to doing everything we can to build a full-employment economy, where everyone has a job that pays enough to raise a family and live in dignity with a sense of purpose.

Retirement Security: Seniors should not have to choose between putting food on the table, keeping a roof over their heads, or buying the medication that they need to stay healthy.

Voting Rights: The Democratic Party was founded on the promise of an expanded democracy. Democrats believe we must make it easier to vote, not harder.

Science and Technology: Democrats value American technological innovation and scientific ingenuity and believe it is one of our country’s great strengths.

National Security: Democrats believe that America must lead in the world to grow our economy, protect our interests and values, and make our country safer and more prosperous. Democrats further believe that when America leads, it must be as a principled force for peace and prosperity in the world.
